Cypress Independent Living Services provides daily life skills trainings to adults with developmental disabilities, so they can lead the most independent and fulfilling lives possible. The education and instruction occurs in the client's homes as well as in their local community.
Developmental Disabilities are defined by California law as:
"...occurring before the age of 18, and includes specific categories of eligible conditions such as: mental retardation, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, autism, and 'conditions requiring services similar to those required for persons with mental retardation'"
Cypress ILS's staff work one on one with their clients each week, coaching and educating them on various skills so that they grow in independence and self reliance, and become less dependent on others. Training is tailor made to fit each client's needs, and can include skills instruction in areas such as: money management and balancing checkbooks, grocery shopping and cooking, exercise and weight loss, social and recreational involvement, medical appointment setting and health maintenance, and job hunting and preparation, just to name a few.
Independent Living training is unique in the fact that that it services clients whose needs may otherwise "fall through the cracks". Unlike individuals that require constant supervision or hands on healthcare, Cypress ILS's clients are all able to live successfully on their own or with minimal assistance for the majority of their days. Our staff provides the training and assistance in identified areas of need so that our clients DO NOT have to go to a higher level of care than they truly do need.
Our services are goal oriented and are driven by the philosophy that the more independent individuals are in their daily lives, the more successful they will be.
